The Five Finger Rule
We are going to begin the year by discussing how to make appropriate book
choices. We will learn about the many book genres available and how we can pick
a book that is "just right " for us. We will be learning the Five Finger rule:
Hold up your fist.
As you try to read the book, put up a finger for each word that you don't know.
If you get to five fingers before the end of the page, the book is probably too difficult for you.
Try a different book.
Other resources
You will be encouraged to read a variety of genres this year- both fiction and nonfiction.
If you are looking for a good book to read, ask for a recommendation from the librarian,
Mrs. Cirulli, a friend, or try one of these websites:
